The forge window
Talk to a blacksmith and pick a service: a window opens with slots for your equipment and the stones. Drag the items from your bag into the slots. The window shows the price and the success chance before you confirm, and tells you why a combination is refused.
Step 1: open a socket
A piece of gear can hold up to 3 sockets. Each gem needs its own socket.

Apparel (fashion items) cannot get sockets.
Step 2: forge a gem
You need: the equipment, one gem and one refining stone (Refining Gem or Fine Refining Stone).
Each forge raises that gem's socket by one level. The first forge puts the gem in at level 1; forge the same gem again to take it to level 2, 3 and beyond. The gem's bonus is its base value × the socket level: a Fiery Gem at level 5 gives +20 attack.

If it fails, the gem and the refining stone are lost. Your equipment is never destroyed and its sockets keep their level.
Rules to know
- To raise a socket to level N, both the gem and the refining stone must be level N or higher. That is why you combine gems (step 3) before forging high levels.
- Each gem has a maximum level (6 for the common gems, 3 for the stat gems, less for rare ones), and fits only some kinds of equipment. See the gem catalogue.
- Price: (1 + the total of all socket levels already on the item) × 100,000 gold. A fresh item costs 100,000; an item with gems at levels 3 + 2 costs 600,000. The gold is taken before the roll.
- A Blue Forging Fruit adds +40 % to the chance for 60 seconds.
Forgeable gear: swords, greatswords, bows, guns, daggers, staffs, shields, hats, armour, tattoos, gloves, shoes, necklaces, rings, bracelets, belts, handguards and cloaks.
Step 3: combine gems
Two identical gems of the same level become one gem of the next level. Refining stones can be combined the same way.
You need: a Gem Composition Scroll (sold by Amos in Shaitan) and the two gems. Cost: 5,000 gold.

If it fails, the scroll and both gems are lost. A Red Combining Fruit adds +20 % for 60 seconds. A gem already at its maximum level cannot be combined.
Step 4: strengthen your gear (Effectiveness)
Strengthening adds +1 % to every positive stat of the item per level, up to level 10 (+10 %).
You need: a Strengthening Scroll and a Strengthening Crystal.

If it fails, the scroll, the crystal and the gold are lost, and the level stays the same.
Step 5: upgrade to a boss set (Equipment Upgrade)
Some items can evolve into a stronger version with a special stone: Soul of Kylin for the Kylin set, Soul of Black Dragon for the Black Dragon set, and the souls of the Abaddon lords for their level 75 gear.
- Cost: 100,000 gold. Always succeeds.
- Gems and sockets are kept on the new item; the strengthening level goes back to 0.

Take a gem back out (Gem Extraction)
A Blacksmith's Plier chooses the socket: 1st Slot, 2nd Slot or 3rd Slot.
- You get the gem back at the socket's level, and the socket drops one level (it empties when it reaches 0).
- Cost: total of all socket levels × 10,000 gold. Always succeeds. Keep one free bag slot.
Repairs
Worn gear loses its stats when durability hits zero. Any blacksmith repairs it back to full.
- Cost: grows with the missing durability and the item's level (a few gold for low-level gear).
- Life skill tools (axes, pickaxes…) are repaired with a Repair Tool at the Furnace of Immortality in Spring Town, for 200 gold.
- Corals recharge there too, with a Rechargeable Battery (300 gold) or a Super Rechargeable Battery (1,000 gold).

- Gems: chests and monsters of the mid levels and instances: Chaos Chests, Wailing warriors, mummies, sharks and snow dolls for the common gems; the Death Knight, Huge Mud Monster, Wandering Soul and Snowman Warlord for the stat gems; the Black Dragon for its three gems. Each gem page lists every creature that drops it.
